To be eligible for bowling an athlete must be registered with Special Olympics. Please visit the Athlete section of this website for registration details.
The Two Person Bowling training is from the beginning of November through the middle of January with breaks in between for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays. Practice day and time is Sunday 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Bowling balls and shoes are available to the athletes free of charge at the practice site. The two person bowling team is the pairing of athletes by age and ability when possible.
Bowlers of all skill levels including breginners are welcomed into the program.
Registration is open between the first and 31st of October. Spaces fill up quickly so sign up early.
Registered Special Olympic athletes in Northern Virginia, the area that includes the counties of Arlington and Fairfax and the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Fairfax City, may sign up for Area 26 bowling by sending an email message or calling, (703) 359-4301, the Area 26 Bowling Coordinator. Include the following information in your email message:
Athletes name
Athletes e-mail address or phone number
Athletes parent or guardian and their contact email address and phone number.
Two Person Bowling is a Special Olympics of Virginia winter championship event held in Northern Virginia in the middle of January. Bowlers who rely on lane bumpers are not eligible to participate in state tournaments. Bowlers who use a ball ramp may participate. An athlete is eligible for state events if they have participated in 7 or more training sessions. Selection is by a random draw.
Practice site is Bowl America Fairfax, 9699 Lee Highway, Fairfax, VA 22031-2321. Bowl America Fairfax is not visible from Lee Highway because it is on the inside edge of a strip mall. To get to Bowl America Fairfax take the second right after driving through Fairfax Circle heading west on Lee Highway. Arties Restaurant is on the corner where you turn into the parking lot. If you prefer to confirm the directions, you may call Bowl America Fairfax at (703) 273 – 7700 for directions.
