Information regarding Area 26’s Golf Program

Athletes are required to meet the usual Special Olympics criteria. Eligibility can be determined by reviewing this web page:

Be An Athlete

For an athlete to participate, they must have submitted a registration form which includes a release form and a physical. A blank form is available via this link:

Physical, Application and Release

The physical must be up-to-date as specified on the form. Coaches are to maintain a book of completed forms and have it available during practice and tournaments. Original forms are submitted to SOVA through Area 26's Medical Coordinator, Bob Britton.

Practice is held in both Spring and Fall Sessions. The Spring session usually runs from late April through late May (or early June). The fall session generally begins in late August and runs through the end of October. The last couple of years, practice has been on Saturdays from 3pm to 4pm at Burke Lake Golf Course, but only on non-holiday weekends. Athletes are welcome to bring their own clubs; however, clubs will be provided if needed.

Most athletes that play in tournaments play alternating shot with a partner. Partners can be anyone with a good grasp of golf rules and etiquette. All partners are required to fill out and submit the following form to the Area 26 golf coach or coordinator:

Partner Form

Registration for summer and fall State tournaments is submitted in July. Generally, only those athletes with some demonstrated proficiency are eligible for tournament play. Additional tournament information is available for those athletes.

If your athlete is interested in practicing at the next session, please let me know so I can add your e-mail address to the group mailing list (e-mail link below). At the first practice, be sure to bring a copy of the completed physical and release form mentioned above. Additional forms will be provided at practice for documentation of contact information.
